The Turtle is one of the oldest reptiles on earth, so in turn, this animal has one of the most ancient mythologies associated with it. Because of it*s ancient histories, the turtle has long been associated with the goddess energy, Mother Earth, longevity, and awakening.
In some cultures, the turtle was a symbol of the female sex organs and sexuality. The markings on some turtles total thirteen, which is similar to the lunar calendar. Turtle teaches us about slowing down, and living within the moment; also helping to teach the message of patience & trusting in Divine Timing. From these reptiles, one can learn the lesson of retreating within ourselves & our own "shells" to connect with our most primal essence & to come back out when our ideas are ready to be expressed clearly.
As a creature of both land and water, the turtle helps remind us that the way to heaven is through the earth. Also, as a shore creature, the turtle is sometimes known as the keeper of the doors, as all shore areas are associated with doorways to the Faerie Realm. Turtles hold the mystery of awakening both the physical & spiritual levels of the senses because of their amazing strategies & survival skills
